Simple Ways to Destress
It happens to the best of us - we get so focused on our careers that we get stressed out and forget to take time for ourselves. I think we are all guilty of doing this at some point. It is a well known fact that you will perform better in your work life when you have taken time to de-stress and relax your mind, body and soul.
Having a healthy work/life balance is so important and while everyone’s version of relaxing is different, we have rounded up a few of our favorite ways to stay relaxed when we are feeling stressed.
EXERCISE
Doing yoga or meditating might seem like the obvious form of exercise to relax, but even if you enjoy high intensity work outs like spinning or kick boxing, escaping your mind and releasing your stress and anxiety through exercise is a great way to relax. It is also proven that exercising in the day will help you sleep better at night. If you can work anything from a 45 minute exercise class to a morning hike into your daily routine then you’re on the right track!
READING
Although reading a book might not be everyones’ favorite thing to do when not at work, when you find the right book, you might change your mind. By reading stories, we escape our own minds and enter another world so to speak. Whether you like to read novels, essays or even the newspaper, reading for 30 minutes every day will allow us to forget what we have going on and focus on something else and refresh our minds.
DRINKING TEA
In the mornings we drink coffee to help us kick start our day, and some people like to drink tea in the evenings to unwind. While a glass of wine might also do the trick and is totally acceptable after a long day of work, Yogi Kava Stress Relief Tea is a delicious hot drink that contains special herbs that help you de-stress. The tea is said to reduce anxiety and makes you feel good all over. It also contains no caffeine so it will not keep you awake at night.
LISTEN TO MUSIC
We have been listening to music for thousands of years to help us relax and it works! The magical part about music is that it is subjective, and everyone has a different preference. Whether you listen to country music, hip hop or french jazz, switching on your favorite genre for 30 minuets a day will not only help you unwind but it will also make you feel inspired and refreshed for work the next day. You could also try a relaxation tape of waves crashing and birds tweeting…it works in the movies right?!
FIND A HOBBY
There are plenty of sports and activities that are proven to be therapeutic. If you’re more athletic, you can try a sport like golf or swimming. If you’re more creative, you could try painting or knitting. Whatever your preference is, finding a hobby that you can work into your weekly routine will help take the edge off and get you feeling excited about something new!
