Simple Ways to Destress

It happens to the best of us - we get so focused on our careers that we get stressed out and forget to take time for ourselves. I think we are all guilty of doing this at some point. It is a well known fact that you will perform better in your work life when you have taken time to de-stress and relax your mind, body and soul.

Having a healthy work/life balance is so important and while everyone’s version of relaxing is different, we have rounded up a few of our favorite ways to stay relaxed when we are feeling stressed.

Doing yoga or meditating might seem like the obvious form of exercise to relax, but even if you enjoy high intensity work outs like spinning or kick boxing, escaping your mind and releasing your stress and anxiety through exercise is a great way to relax. It is also proven that exercising in the day will help you sleep better at night. If you can work anything from a 45 minute exercise class to a morning hike into your daily routine then you’re on the right track!

Although reading a book might not be everyones’ favorite thing to do when not at work, when you find the right book, you might change your mind. By reading stories, we escape our own minds and enter another world so to speak. Whether you like to read novels, essays or even the newspaper, reading for 30 minutes every day will allow us to forget what we have going on and focus on something else and refresh our minds.

In the mornings we drink coffee to help us kick start our day, and some people like to drink tea in the evenings to unwind. While a glass of wine might also do the trick and is totally acceptable after a long day of work, Yogi Kava Stress Relief Tea is a delicious hot drink that contains special herbs that help you de-stress. The tea is said to reduce anxiety and makes you feel good all over. It also contains no caffeine so it will not keep you awake at night.

We have been listening to music for thousands of years to help us relax and it works! The magical part about music is that it is subjective, and everyone has a different preference. Whether you listen to country music, hip hop or french jazz, switching on your favorite genre for 30 minuets a day will not only help you unwind but it will also make you feel inspired and refreshed for work the next day. You could also try a relaxation tape of waves crashing and birds tweeting…it works in the movies right?!

There are plenty of sports and activities that are proven to be therapeutic. If you’re more athletic, you can try a sport like golf or swimming. If you’re more creative, you could try painting or knitting. Whatever your preference is, finding a hobby that you can work into your weekly routine will help take the edge off and get you feeling excited about something new!

In addition to these wonderful rituals that will help you lead a less stressed life, we our excited to announce the launch of our new Blue Lace Agate bracelet that helps to ease stress and promotes a healthy, balanced lifestyle. You can shop our new bracelet and the rest of our collection HERE.

Positive Intentions for Summer

It is hard to believe that we are already almost 6 months into the year. It seems like yesterday we were celebrating the holidays! With summer quickly approaching and officially beginning on June 20th, the My Mahana team have been discussing the importance of going into the summer months with the right intentions.

Like each season, we should have goals and intentions set in place. That being said, the summer months are to be enjoyed as well. Whether you have a summer season full of traveling, working, launching a new business or spending time with family, we have rounded up our favorite pieces for summer that will not only help you set your intentions but also spruce up your summer style.

If you’re taking the summer off for relaxation or working hard on a new project, it is important to maintain balance in your lifestyle. If you’re traveling, consider keeping a journal of all your experiences to keep your brain stimulated. If you’re cooped up in an office working, head to the beach for the weekend to free your mind. It is so important to have a balanced way of living so we can make positive and clear decisions. Our Balance Intention Bracelet is a perfect reminder of this and is beautifully crafted with Crazy Lace Agate.

Our Focus Intention bracelet is made from Snowflake Jasper and works wonderfully paired with the Balance Intention Bracelet. The intention behind these stones are to keep the wearer focused and centered throughout chaotic situations. Whether you are spending your summer in a busy office or hanging out with your family, these stones will keep you grounded as well as stylish.

Although you may be spending your summer working or being a busy social butterfly, it is important to take these months to find some tranquility.

Whether you find peace at the beach, at the gym or even sleeping in late, it is key that you take time to do this over summer. Our Calm Intention bracelet is made from Blue Tigers Eye and is designed to bring serenity to the wearer, relieving stress and anxiety and bringing peace.

It is officially bikini season and now is the time to be focused on your physical health more than ever. That being said, our mental health is just as important as our physical health. The Mahana Wellness Bracelet is designed to bring the intention of health and well-being to the wearer. Amethyst is a positive stone and works to promote a healthy mental and physical being. It helps to improve mental awareness and when worn in the workplace will help with stress, anxiety and depression.

We hope this helps you set the right intentions for your summer season!  Shop the full My Mahana intention collection HERE.

Intro to Numerology

I think it is safe to say that everyone has a lucky number, but why? One answer might be because numbers hold a very special meaning for individuals. Numbers, like people, take on their own characteristics. These characteristics can be understood through Numerology, which is the study of the relationship between numbers and their symbolic meaning humans assign to them.

Each number, from 0-8, has a specific meaning. How one arrives to that number is by decoding your birthdate. Read below to find your life path number!

1. First, write down your full birth date. For Example:

January 31st, 1992

2. Next, narrow down the month, day and year to a single figure by adding them up.

For Example:

MONTH: January is the 1st month of the year = 1

DAY: My birth date is the 31st - Add 3 + 1 = 4

Keep adding to narrow down to a one-digit number: 1 + 4 = 5

YEAR: The year of birth is 1992

Continue adding until you narrow down to a one-digit number: 1+9+9+2 = 21

3. Now add the resulting single figures together to get the Life Path Number. For Example:

Month=1 + Day=4 + Year=21

1 + 4 + 21 = 26

2 + 6 = 8

My Life Path number is 8

Then cross check that number with the interpretations. With the help of, we've provided some below.
Number 1:  this is a number of independence, which makes sense since it's just 1.  People who are drawn to the number 1 are self starters and often tend to rely only on themselves. It represents a person who demonstrates leadership and drive. The 1 is masculine, focused, an originator and self starter; it is also progressive, strong willed, courageous, self-reliant and rebellious.

Number 2:  People with 2 are Sensitive, tactful, diplomatic and cooperative. The 2s tend to be peacemakers and are loving, studious and patient. A 2 may express many musical or feminine qualities and also tends to be sensual and intuitive. Want to exude your peace and harmony? Place two crystals in your home to create a harmonious balance in your life.

Number 3: 3s are imaginative, expressive communicators and artists. They are tolerant, joyful, optimistic, inspiring, talented, jovial, youthful, dynamic ... the list goes on and on! But above all, 3s are the creative bunch. My Mahana is definitely a number 3. Collections are designed in 3s with 3 color ways of design.

Number 4: 4s are disciplined, strong, stable, pragmatic, down-to-earth, reliable, dependable, hard-working, extracting, precise, methodical, conscientious, frugal, devoted, patriotic and trustworthy! The number for is associated with love when in a relationship.  Think of it as a building block (4 sides) it's a number that creates a solid foundation; that’s the life you create for yourself.

Number 5: 5s are energetic, adventurous, daring and freedom-loving; it's a symbol of life. They also tend to be versatile, flexible, adaptable, curious, social, sensual, quick-thinking, witty, courageous and worldly.

Number 6:  6s are responsible, loving, self-sacrificing, protective, sympathetic and compassionate. These loyal, maternal figures are domestic, fair and idealistic healers or teachers. This number is connected to the earth.  When you magnify a snowflake you will see it has 6 points.

Number 7:  7 isn't just a lucky number. It's also spiritual, intelligent, analytical, focused, introspective, studious, intuitive, knowledgeable, contemplative, serious, persevering, refined, gracious and displays much inner wisdom.

3 Essentials Habits for a Peaceful Meditation

Mediating is a great practice, but it can be very difficult to achieve a peaceful meditation. These 3 essentials will aid you to achieve Zen every time you meditate:

    1. Power Off: Keeping away from your electronics during meditation sounds self-explanatory, but most of us have a hard time disconnecting from all of our electronics. This means everything from your lights to your curling iron. All of these little things can add up to make one big distraction. If you are attached to your phone, try keeping it completely out of sight so you are not tempted to turn it back on.

Tip: Use candles for light. Candles can create a more peaceful state with their natural light versus florescent lights.

        2. Declutter: The area of where you choose to meditate needs to be in order. Even with your eyes closed, you will feel your clothes, bills and random trinkets in your head. A clean, organized space with minimal furniture will be allow for a clear mind.

Tip:Choose a corner or enclosed area in your house dedicated to mediating. A designated, clutter free area will make it easier for you to habitually meditate knowing you have your go to space.

          3. Intention: One of the hardest aspects about meditating is trying to stay focused. Setting an intention before meditating will help prevent becoming scatter brained. Not only does setting an intention help create focus, it also makes one more aware of their thoughts, actions and emotions.

Tip: Write down your intention prior to meditating. If you write it, see it, say it and think it you are more likely to keep on track. Keep a mediation journal to track your intentions.

Remember to make your meditation practice your own. When new to meditation it may seem like a foreign exercise and you may experience a hard time turning off your mind and focusing. Keep practicing, in time it will become easier to achieve stillness in your mind and begin to experience the positive effects of meditation.

          Labradorite in the Work Space

When you observe a piece of Labroadorite you will see its shimmering hues of blues and greys.  The Inuit people believe that it fell from the frozen fire of the Aurora Borealis, creating this magical looking crystal.  Labradorite is one of the most powerful stones in the crystal world, it holds a protective energy which helps to create a space filled with positive energy.

Often associated with the Crown Chakra (at the top of your head) Labradorite is connected to the energy of the mind.  When you wear Labradorite or place it near you it creates a sense of clarity and eases intuition, making it a great stone to have in your office or workspace.

Today, our offices and work spaces have become cluttered with computers, devices and technology.  These devices can often create distractions and unneeded stress.   Crystals placed in the workspace not only add to the décor, but also absorb negative and excess energy created by our devices. By placing crystals within our space we create a helpful reminder to take time to distress and stay positive.

Where to place crystals in the work place:

          • Next to a window.  The sunlight enhances the energy of crystals and creates beautiful reflecting light off the stone.

          • As a book end or paper weight.  Crystals not only add beauty to a space but also enhance the good vibes.

          • In the dirt of any plants in the office.  This helps both the crystal and those around it stay grounded and connected to the earth.
